Mike Haridopolos and the $152 Thousand Dollar Book

In Uncategorized on March 2, 2011 at 4:17 pm

Let me say before I get started that Mike Haridopolos is a nice enough guy. He’s a polite in person, plays Fantasy Football and handles his own Twitter account. He wants to be Florida’s next Senator and I think he could potentially do a fine job.

but stuff like this will get him beat in the primary, if he draws an opponent.

Days after flipping his position on High Speed Rail from yes to no on behalf of the tax payers. Senator Haridopolos is getting slammed in the media today after it was revealed that one copy of a book he wrote for Brevard Community College sold for $152 thousand dollars.

It was a manuscript called Florida Legislative History and Processes and had some one liners such as “At a minimum a candidate must know his own position on all the important issues.” and others along the lines as a cellphone is mandatory and an internet connection is important.

Yeah, the voters will probably forget by the time 2012 rolls around, and he will have a polished rebuttal should this be brought up in a debate, but what really upsets me is the way Brevard Community College is handling this. Here in Florida, home of the double dipping, college administrators, it’s difficult to accept that budget mistakes like these are being made in community colleges all over the state and cash-strapped college kids are eating ramen noodles 3 times a day, 7 days a week to cover foolish expenses such as this.

Lawmakers and institutions of higher learning still have a lot work to do when it comes to spending wisely.

Haridopolos and BCC are both at fault for this one..
