Florida Republicans fighting Obama Healthcare on all levels

In Uncategorized on May 3, 2011 at 10:54 pm

You heard it at every GOP event in 2010. Republican politicians running for office on all levels of government, standing in front of loud audience at a rally or hob nob. “I’ll vote to repeal Obamacare!” “If I get the chance, I’ll tell Nancy Pelosi what she can do with Obamacare!” “Obamacare? Not in Florida!”

Well, they’re certainly trying to keep their promise.

Conservative lawmakers from Tallahassee to Capitol Hill have been trying a variety of tactics to try and knock the President’s universal health care plan off track.

They’re trying to go under it, in Washington, the GOP controlled House of Representatives have been trying to pass legislation that would chip away at funding, for the President’s health care plan. A bill here, that would cut funding there, that would save funding/cut a service (depending on your opinion) under the plan. It’s entertaining political theater. very methodical.

Here in the Sunshine state we’re trying to go over it. Attorney General Pam Bondi has joined over 26 other AG’s in a federal lawsuit against Obamacare. Those arguments are scheduled to be heard this summer. Bondi has been talking about this for over a year, and has been critical of the process. She’s accused the court system of dragging it’s feet.

Pam Bondi has been out front on the health care debate. If you're reading this from out of state, I know, I know, she's got it going on.

Finally we’re trying to go through it. In the state legislature, we have HB 1193. It’s a one page bill that basically says, you can’t be compelled to buy health care. That’s it. There are a couple of conditions, but nothing that we’re not already dealing with. One page. It’s so simple, it’s funny. The lawyers are waving it off and saying it doesn’t work.

Will any of these tactics actually work? Probably not, the only one that has a real shot is Bondi’s lawsuit with the rest of the AG’s. The only real solution for anti-Obamacare advocates is well, defeating Barack Obama next year and with Bin Laden dead, and this crop of potential candidates, it’s not looking too good.

You can be sure that, when Republican incumbents hit the trail next year, if they haven’t stopped this health care plan, they’ll be able to tell the voters, they did everything they could.
