Dear Sir or Ma’am:

There were better men and women than me, that I had the honor of serving with during the war on terror. They lost members of their family during the attacks on 9/11 in New York. Their marriages were often stressed until divorce because multiple deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan, left one parent to do the work of two.

Worst of all was the email or Facebook message spreading the sad news, that one of us was gone and would not be coming home. A victim of an IED or convoy ambush; cowardly attacks that left us saying “that soldier deserved so much better, so much more”.

The death of Bin Laden won’t bring any of our loved ones back, but maybe it will bring some solace to the families left behind, that a man capable of the worst kind of evil, is gone. They can hopefully feel some closure knowing that we will never stop fighting, and we will honor the memories of their fallen, loved ones forever.
