President Obama made right decision by canceling Orlando Visit

In Uncategorized on July 20, 2012 at 4:01 pm

After the tragic shootings in Aurora, Colorado this morning and just hours before he was scheduled to appear, President Barack Obama cancelled his trip to Rollins College here in Orlando.

It was the without a doubt the right decision. The country needs a sitting President now with eyes on the developing situation, not a campaigning one.

When the tragedy occurred his campaign had to make a call. Do they proceed after the deaths of 12 people and injuries to dozens more? Are they really going to go on stage in front of thousands cheering a campaign speech just hours after the lives of so many people were ruined?

No. Not only would it be the wrong decision politically. It would be the wrong decision in any case.

Our thoughts, the thoughts of all Americans, should be with the victims and the families of that cowardly act in Colorado.

Orlando will see more of the President between now and November. It’s a matter of political survival. In fact, it wouldn’t surprise me if he were back here in 10 days. We’ve had POTUS, Biden, or the First Lady in Orlando almost every week for the last two months. That trend should continue all the way until election day. Mitt Romney will line up his own visits and surrogates and we’ll have a representatives from both campaigns in Orlando every few days.

Today is about the victims and those affected by this awful act. It’s not about balloons, bright signs, and campaign speeches.

The President was smart enough to know that and hopefully those who stood hours in line to get tickets to his event will too.
