Dueling Webster Ads Go Public. Jeb, Bondi, Putnam join the fight.

The fight for the 10th Congressional district has gotten “real” over the last two weeks with Congressman Daniel Webster and former Orlando Police Chief Val Demings both scoring political points as the election day draws closer.

Earlier this week there was the bizarre Sentinel Op-Ed board that threw both candidates off balance and today if voters were still undecided in the race, they might be even more confused after today.

First was this third party attack ad pushed out today by the DCCC.

It’s a solid attack ad with a neat concept but it uses retreaded attack material like the staircase that didn’t hit the right cord with voters two years ago and that fishing trip the ad points out has already been mentioned over and over and both parties are guilty of events like these.

Let’s put it on the Awww Snap Meter.

It’s a neat ad but the attack points are stale and haven’t resonated with voters in the past.

Next is the big one. The positive ad that features 3 lawmakers popular in the 10th district.

“A Champion” features Florida Agriculture Commissioner Adam Putnam, Attorney General Pam Bondi, and yes, Jeb. Former Governor Jeb Bush.

The big names alone make the ad effective but when those 3 speak up in a Republican leaning district and use the “Us vs. Them” approach, it hits the mark. Plus, the lack of any negative campaigning by Webster himself gives the message credibility. The writing in that ad is terrific and they need to run that spot on television as much as possible. It’s not an attacker so we won’t put it on the Awww Snap meter but it’s a great commercial for sure.

The two have a date for a Tiger Bay debate next Friday but, I’m sure we’ll here more from both campaigns before then.
